AISES Internship at NASA Glenn Research Center
AISES student members, you are invited - through a 10-week summer internship - to help develop the technologies needed to send astronauts back to the Moon and on to Mars!
This new AISES internship program is being introduced in 2006 at the NASA Glenn Research Center , in Cleveland , Ohio . In future years, it may be offered at different NASA centers across the country.
Through its Exploration Systems program: http://exploration.nasa.gov/
NASA is working to design future spacecraft, rockets, spacesuits, life support systems, robotic explorers, and more. Work is also underway to develop associated technologies, like those needed to maintain astronaut health and performance during future space travel. NASA Glenn is contributing to the development of the Crew Exploration Vehicle (CEV), especially with the development of a liquid oxygen / methane rocket engine. NASA Glenn is also participating in the design of the associated Crew Launch Vehicle (CLV) especially with the thrusters, electrical power, and instrumentation for the upper stage. The Glenn Research Center is NASA's lead for ensuring fire safety on spacecraft, and a variety of normal gravity and microgravity research is conducted for this purpose. NASA Glenn expertise in fluid physics, instrumentation, and other disciplines is being applied to a wide variety of biomedical research. You can learn more about Exploration Systems research at NASA Glenn at: http://exploration.grc.nasa.gov/
For this year, it is expected that 2 internships
will be available for students studying aerospace, biomedical,
chemical, electrical, mechanical, and/or nuclear engineering or
applicable physical
, biological or computer sciences background .
Outside of NASA, Cleveland has many attractions to
offer summer interns, including a weekend powwow in mid June
organized by the city's American Indian Education Center . The national
halls of fame for inventors, pro football, and Rock and Roll are all found
in northeast Ohio . In nearby Sandusky , thrill seekers can experience
incredible rides at the Cedar Point Amusement Park which was voted the "Best
Amusement Park in the World" for many years in a row!
Interns must be U.S. citizens (i.e., permanent residency is insufficient). The internship application form and instructions are available at: http://www.aises.org/Programs/ScholarshipsandInternships/Internships
