At the request of the Minnesota Federal Executive Board, NASA Glenn Research Center participated once again in the 3rd Annual Mall of America (the largest U.S. mall) "Government on Display Exposition", February 3-4, 2001, in Minneapolis, MN. Over 40 Federal and Minnesota government agencies participated with exhibits. The centerpiece of the NASA exhibit, located in the Mall rotunda - - the main Exposition program area, was the Microgravity Science Division's ISS U. S. Laboratory Mockup featuring the Fluids and Combustion Facility (FCF). The U. S. Lab mockup was complemented by the ISS model kiosk, a display of a moon rock, and Eva, the GRC space-suited, bigger than life astronaut. A real astronaut, Shuttle Commander Robert Cabana, a Minnesota native, made three presentations, signed autographs, and toured the ISS Mockup. A large number of the general public (last year's attendance was estimated at over 200,000 people) passed by the exhibit and toured the U. S. Lab. Many Minnesota residents expressed a very strong, enthusiastic, positive interest in NASA programs and the ISS. Other notable visitors were Minnesota U. S. Senator Mark Dayton and Minnesota Congressman Gil Gutknecht (1st Congressional District); they also toured the U. S. Lab mockup and the FCF.
