High energy, deep-space power systems are critical for enabling space
exploration to Mars and beyond. Prometheus, named after the mythological
Greek titan who gave humanity the gift of fire, is responsible for
developing nuclear fission power and propulsion systems. The Jet
Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) is the overall lead center for Prometheus
(http://prometheus.jpl.etc)
while GRC is the lead technology center for electric propulsion,
power conversion, and heat rejection. GRC is also supporting the mission
with high power telecommunications systems and mission systems analysis.
Electric Propulsion: GRC is leading the Prometheus 1 Electric Propulsion Segment
(EPS) development during the Prometheus Project’s Phase A and B activities.

Power Conversion and Heat Rejection: GRC is conducting technology development
in three critical areas of Power Conversion – Brayton Cycle conversion,

High Power Telecommunications: GRC is conducting technology
development in two critical areas: high power Ka-band TWT (traveling
wave tubes)
and TWT combiners...
Mission and Systems Analysis: Making sense out of the advantages of multiple
technologies for space propulsion and power generation requires expertise
