High Power Telecommunications:
GRC is conducting technology development in
two critical areas: high power Ka-band TWT (traveling wave tubes) and
TWT combiners for even higher powers. High Radio Frequency (RF) power
(as high as 1 kW) transmitters are being considered to meet the very
high data transmission requirements of future deep space missions. TWT
components are an ideal solution over the solid state devices for a
high power and efficient approach for data transmission, especially
in a radiation environment. High efficiency power combined with a Ka-band
wave guide circuit can be included for TWT redundancy and enhanced reliability.
